NOT ASSOCIATED WITH MANAGEMENT AT OASIS RV RESORT.  FOR GUESTS ONLY.

Update 1.22.2022:  You will notice that there are multiple "SSIDs" (e.g. OASIS-RVZ). Please use them if they appear. OASIS-RVZ, OASIS-5GZ etc. are all functional using the same password.  You will find that some work better than others. Those who use a hotspot via a cellular provider, please connect your TVs to the Oasis Network so you can save your hotspot data for work.

1.22.2022  Many of the guests are upset over the lack of WIFI, as they were told the system would be up and fuctional today.   Considering the number of complaints, it is difficult to say with certainty that the wifi will be completed any time soon.  Hopefully, the group responsible will bring in the expertise to resolve the matters shortly.

Cellular Routers:  A complex topics...Some basics.

  1. You almost always have to purchase a cellular router. They range in price from free to $550.00.
  2. Be aware that you are much better off connecting your TV to the Oasis Cable TV system then use Netflix through a celluar router.  You can burn through 2GB per movie, and some of the hotspots offer as low as 2GB per month.
  3. ATT routers are tricky.  If you go into the store, you will pay $400.00 per month for 100GB of internet.  Tmobile still offers a $50.00, 100GB plan but you have to pay at least $300.00 with tax for the router.
  4. There is little difference between 4G and 5G routers, so sticking with 4G LTE (they are interchangeable) routers may be smarter and less expesensive.
  5. Walmart sells the "Prepaid cards" but the speed of the data is not guaranteed.
  6. The term "unlimited" is false.  It is unlimited data, but after x number of GB of use, the data rate slows down to an unusable rate. For example, you may get 20 MPS down and 10 MPS up  before you hit 10GB, but after 10GB, you will get .5MPS down, and .5MPS up.  It all depends on the provider.  Read the fine print.
  7. Use your phone as a mobile hotspot.  Under Settings there is a Mobile Hotspot option on most phones.  You would have to set turn this on, but it must be part of your plan.  Your phone becomes the "router". You connect to your phone for internet access.  Plug in your phone, as the battery life is cut down significantly when you use the hotspot feature.
  8. On 1/8/2021, I have already noticed a significant decrease in the cellular speeds at the Oasis with all carriers, as many people are connecting to the same single tower serving the Oasis.
  9. Verizon does not work well at the Oasis. It works better if you are closer to the front of  the complex (closer to Blue Diamond) and worse as you get to the rear of the complex (closer to the Apartment Complex behind the Oasis.
  10. Sprint is Tmobile, but if you attempt to use sprint for cellular data, you may run into a bug where your speeds are extremely slow.  It is a known issue. It appears as though Tmobile is not prioritizing Sprint customers, but it is not known exactly why.

As you may have noticed, a new WIFI system is being installed.  Rest assured, it is a much more sophisticated system, but the process of implementation is difficult.  It is rapidly being deployed, but please try to be patient in the process.  With all the challenges Covid has placed on parts, it is a miracle they have completed so much
in such a short time.

NEW WIFI SYSTEM!  2022 will be a great year at the Oasis, as LV.NET has been upgraded.

This is from my perspective as a former NASA Scientist. The new company asked me to aid them with the implementation, and I can tell you they are very intelligent, solution-oriented individuals who are focused on improving your experience with WIFI. The technology they are using is light-years ahead of the system we had.

SETUP AND USING THE NEW WIFI SYSTEM

The new system has SSIDs (the network name when you scroll on your device to find internet connections). already presented, but may not be fully functional.  You will see the SSID (think of the SSID as a person's name.  By adding the password, you have a direct connection to it).  The Imortant points are numbered so that you can properly set up your phone, tablet or any device that requires an internet connection.

IMPORTANT RULES TO OPTIMIZE THE CONNECTION
  1. The new WIFI SSID is "OASIS-RVZ".  This the one you want to connect to.  The password was provided to you, and is a new one.  If you do not know it, contact the front desk or ask others in the park for the password.  I'm not comfortalbe posting the password on a public site.

  2. There is another SSID named "OASIS-CH".  DO NOT CONNECT TO THIS SSID UNLESS YOU ARE IN THE CLUBHOUSE.  It is best to turn off the "Automatically connect to this network" function. If you do not know how to do this, I will provide a video showing how to delete it as a connection.  You can always connection to it while in the clubhouse.

  3. IF you have a site near the Clubhouse (Main Building), your "devices" including devices which provide entire RV internet (a router) which connects to the SSID may be a problem.  The key at your RV (Ha didn't mean to rhyme) is to avoid connecting to this SSID unless you are in the clubhouse.  If you DO NOT see the SSID "OASIS-RVZ", DO NOT CONNECT TO THE OASIS-CH INSTEAD.  It will most likely disconnect, and you will be stuck with not just a lack of internet, but all your devices will think they DO have an internet connection wreaking havoc ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE CONNECTING WITH A CELLULAR PHONE.

  4. MOST IMPORTANT BY FAR: CELLULAR PHONES AND DEVICES WHICH RELY UPON CELLUAR FOR AN INTERENT CONNECTION.  THE PROBLEM IF YOU CONNECT YOUR SMARTPHONE TO AN SSID WITH NO INTERNET, YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE ACCESSSING THE MOST IMPORTANT SITES LIKE ACCESSING MEDICAL RECORDS, AND COMMUNICATING WITH DOCTORS.

The problem is the WIFI connection and CELLULAR connection are like best friends talking on a phone line with severely restricted ability to hear your friend and vice versa.  IF, you are connected to WIFI, the Stupidphone's (ha ha)  cellular system , for the sake of  saving on cellular data. BUT, now the two best friends keep handing the hot potatoe back and fort, and this increases the probability that you won't be able to access your most important of websites.

HOW TO DEAL WITH THE SITUATION WHEN YOU ARE CONNECTED TO ANY NETWORK (OASIS-CH OR OASIS-RVZ) AND IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY.

SYMPTOM AFTER CONNECTING:  YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACCESS MANY WEBSITES, ESPECIALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES, LIKE HEALTH RECORDS OR FINANCIAL INSTUTIONS WITH YOUR SMARTPHONE OR ANY CELLULAR DEVICE.

SOLUTION: FOR DEVICES WITH CELLULAR CONNECTIONS (e.g. Smartphones any model  like Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or Iphone. It works for all cellular-connected phones).

  5. Look closely at the top of your screen.  Most will show tiny letters "no internet".  You can also go to your phones settings for WIFI.  If it displays anything like "connected with no internet", tap the GEAR icon (for the OASIS-CH connection) and delete it.  It will ask if you're sure.  Select "YES".

SAFEST SOLUTION: TURN OFF THE WIFI CONNECTION UNDER SETTINGS IN YOUR PHONE.  SEE VIDEO BELOW.
